The Dance of Development

An Invitation to Explore the Enneagram World of the Child

What shaped you before you could shape anything?

Before words, before rules, before memory—something began forming in you. A response. A strategy. A way to belong. And not just you. All of us.

I’m inviting you into a conversation about the roots of that formation—not as an abstract idea, but as a living, breathing reality that still moves through your relationships, reactions, and, yes, your parenting.

We’ll use my book The Enneagram World of the Child: Nurturing Resilience and Self-Compassion in Early Life as our guide. But this isn’t just for parents. It’s for anyone curious about how their family ecosystem shaped their personality—and how presence, curiosity, and acceptance can change the story going forward.

What We’ll Explore

We’ll move through what I call The Dance of Development, a dynamic interplay of forces that shape the child—and continue shaping the adult long after childhood ends.

  • 4 Ego Factors: Fear, Anger, Shame, Superego
  • 2 Driving Forces: Belonging, Being Seen
  • 2 Liberating Dynamics: Curiosity, Acceptance

These aren’t topics to master. They’re living energies to feel into. Reflect on and sense your childhood story—and the subtle way you show up now.

Why This Matters

If you’re a parent, you already know: your children are shaped less by what you say, and more by who you are—especially when you’re tired, triggered, or just trying to get through the day.

If you’re not a parent, you still carry the imprint of the emotional atmosphere you grew up in. Your early ecosystem—the patterns, projections, and unspoken expectations—formed the ground from which your personality emerged.

Understanding this is about freedom.
